After the Let’s Talk Coffee conference in Kigali, Rwanda, in June 2019, my Coffee Sister, Perpetue Mukasuminga and I talked for several hours about her coffee story, the impact of the 1994 genocide on her life, how she became the Rwanda’s first female barista, and her future dreams.
I’m thrilled to announce that Part One of this interview is available here at Barista Magazine online. I’m especially excited about Part Two, when Perpetue shares her dreams and vision for her future in coffee.
Special congratulations to Perpetue, as during the time this interview’s publication was already planned, she became the recipient of the Nestle Professional Scholarship, to cover expenses for her first attendance to attend Barista Camp in Greece!
With special thanks to Sustainable Growers, especially Ruth Coleman, for making my June attendance at Let’s Talk Coffee possible, and to Saint Mary’s University, especially Dean Adam Sarty, for continued support of my research focused on women in East Africa’s coffee sector.
